【Notice】School of Statistics series academic reports (23rd report in 2018)

The Relevance and Accuracy of GDP Statistics in the Digital Economy Era

      Summary of the report: One of the issues that is currently being discussed in the economics community is the new Solo paradox: the rapid development of digital technology coexists with the slow economic growth recorded in official GDP statistics. The official GDP statistics, one of the consensus reached in this discussion, seriously underestimate economic growth. How to deal with the challenges of the digital economy to traditional GDP statistics is an important issue the economic statistics community faces. This report summarizes the progress of current research from three aspects: 1. The definition of digital economy. 2. The measurement of changes in product quality, especially the quality of service products. 3. The impact of globalization on economic statistics. This report concludes with a vision for the future and an outlook for research topics.
