On the evening of December 9, 2018, Beijing Normal University held a chorus contest to commemorate the 83rd Anniversary of the "12 September" Movement and the 40th Anniversary of the Reform and Opening up with the theme of "Inheriting the Red Gene of Beijing Normal University and Singing for the Reform". This was the second year when the School of Statistics participated in the singing contest independently. Though outnumbered by other teams, we still managed to win the first prize with the truehearted and impassioned Ten Farewell to the Red Army.

       Due to the military training of freshmen, we only had one month for rehearsal this year. We only arranged two rehearsals per week considering the heavy workload of our students. The song was difficult and brought about many challenges to us. However, our students rose to the challenges. Everyone made the most of every rehearsal and made progress every time with the guidance of the instructor, the piano accompanist and the conductor. The performance turned out to be a great success.

 On the stage, the students expressed their love for the Red Army and their expectations for their triumph with the affectionate song. The song was sometimes lingering and sometimes passionate, and the judges and the audience were deeply impressed.

 In the end, our chorus team won the first prize. At the same time, conductor Liu Ruihan was awarded the best conductor with excellent conducting skills and won the second prize for our school.

Eighty-three years ago, when the country was in danger, students of Beijing Normal University first called for the rescue of the country on the top of the city wall. Eighty-three years later, the students of the School of Statistics sing the songs to express their love for the country, pass on the red spirit, pay tribute to the 40^th anniversary of reform and opening up and write a poem that never fades with their youth. As students of Beijing Normal University, as students of statistics, a leading profession, we should inherit the spirit of hard work and enthusiasm of the martyrs, and shoulder the mission of inheriting the past and forging ahead into the future, and not forgetting our mission and make contributions to the development of our country!
